Frequently Asked Questions: Product

Do any of the Xoçai™ products contain fructose-enriched corn syrup or "High Fructose Corn Syrup?"

We do not use fructose-enriched corn syrup or High Fructose Corn Syrup in our products. We use 100% "Pure Crystalline Fructose" (or natural fruit sugar).

See the complete Wikipedia explanation of Fructose. (Please note this link contains disputes that have even been posted on Wikipedia under health effects that are not accurate because they are confusing Fructose with HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup).

Crystalline fructose and high-fructose corn syrup are often mistakenly confused as the same product. The former is simply pure (100%) fructose. The latter is composed of nearly equal amounts of fructose and glucose. Crystalline fructose is held to offer many unique benefits such as improved product texture, taste and stability. Specifically, when combined with other sweeteners and starches, crystalline fructose is said to boost cake height (in baked goods) and mouth-feel of foods and beverages and to produce a pleasing brown surface color and pleasant aroma when baking.[1]

Fructose is often recommended for, and consumed by, people with diabetes mellitus or hyperglycemia, because it does not raise blood glucose or insulin concentrations since it is metabolized without the need of insulin.

I have received an X Power Square shipment, and the ingredients now say "Sugar." Have we switched to a lower quality refined sugar?

No, we have not switched from the Raw Cane Juice Crystals. Due to an oversight in the 2nd generation of X Power Squares packaging, the allergy statement was revised to encompass a broader spectrum of allergies but, unfortunately, a generic "Sugar" label was included in the accompanying ingredient statement. The next run of X Power Squares will include a corrected and specific "Raw Cane Juice Crystals" label. MXI Corp is committed to, and takes pride in, using only the finest ingredients in all our chocolate products.

Why does it say the products may contain milk or milk protein? I thought your products do not contain milk?

The Nuggets and X Power Squares may contain milk because they are manufactured on the same equipment that processes other products that do contain milk. The equipment is sanitized after every production run, however the "may contain milk" statement must, legally, be present on the label. They are still considered Vegan.

The Omega Bars do contain a minute amount of milk as part of the Omega-3 powder; therefore, the allergy warning is present, and are considered Vegetarian only.

The Activ Beverage and the Protein Bars contain milk because one of the natural flavors in the flavor system is derived from cream; therefore, the Activ have the allergy warning, and are considered Vegetarian only. Protein Bars are neither vegan, nor vegetarian.

Soy protein and sucralose; why do we use them?

SOY PROTEIN
Soy is the protein source found in the protein bar. Excellent source of protein. See article 1 and article 2 for further details on Soy.

There is no Soy Protein added to any other product. The allergen statement shows “May Contain” or “Contains” Soy because SOY is one of the 6 major allergens determined by the FDA and USDA in the 2006 Allergen Label Law that took effect January 1, 2006.  Soy is common ingredient used in the manufacturing process of lecithin and there may be very small amounts used even in a flavoring system. The allergen statement is required for protection of children and adults suffering from severe allergies and should not be considered part of the ingredient declaration. There is no SOY added unnecessarily. This holds true for “Milk” as well. A disclosure is needed because some of our ingredients may contain trace amounts of cream extracts or other milk derivatives.

SUCRALOSE
Visit www.sucralose.org to learn the facts around this sweetener. The myths surrounding Sucralose on the internet are unfounded.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) states on their website:
"In determining the safety of sucralose, FDA reviewed data from more than 110 studies in humans and animals. Many of the studies were designed to identify possible toxic effects including carcinogenic, reproductive and neurological effects. No such effects were found, and FDA's approval is based on its finding that sucralose is safe for human consumption."

Health Canada states on their website:
"In Canada, food additives such as artificial sweeteners are subject to rigorous controls under the Food and Drugs Act and Regulations. New food additives (or new uses of permitted food additives) are only permitted once a safety assessment has been conducted and regulatory amendments have been enacted.

Several artificial sweeteners have been approved for use in Canada. These include acesulfame-potassium, polydextrose, sucralose, thaumatin and sugar alcohols (polyols) like sorbitol, isomalt, lactitol, maltitol, mannitol and xylitol."

Why do we use hydrolyzed fish collagen?

It is used because it’s a good source of healthy protein that works well in the formula.

I don't know why you don't make a smaller bottle for the powder! It seems like such a waste of space!

The reason the bottle is the size and shape it is, is because it not only stores the powder for shipping, it is what holds the final product. You must ADD WATER TO THE BOTTLE (amounts are labeled on the bottle mixing directions), and use the bottle to shake and store the product! You do not need to remove the product and find a container to add the powder and the water together as you would making hot chocolate or other mixers!

Why do I have to store Xoçai™ Activ™ for one year before I can use it?

This a common miss-read. Xoçai™ Activ™ has a "best consumed by" date of one year from time of manufacture. It does not need to be aged for a year before consuming! Because it has no preservatives, once water is added to the dry powder, it must be refrigerated, and then begins a two week best by date.

Does Xoçai™ Activ™ need to have boiled water added to it? Why does it need to be purified?

Purified water refers to bottled water, not boiled water. You can add warm tap water if you so desire, however, to preserve taste, we recommend using warm bottled water.

I've followed the instructions for mixing the powder, but it seems like the product is still quite thick.

Some people like it thick, some people like it a little thinner. If you find it is too potent with the mixing directions, you should mix as directed, remove a cap-full (Drink it! Don't waste it!), add more water, shake it, put back in the fridge. Next shot you take, see if it's a more preferred consistency. If it still seems thick, add a cap-full more of water. We have found that the bitterness of the raw cacao is dulled after diluted a bit, and the sweetness of the berries comes out after refrigeration.

One thing to remember. It's CHOCOLATE! You don't HAVE to you use as directed! If you like it thin add some water, it's OK, we won't tell! If you want to get really fancy, make a smoothy! Add some berries, add some ice, add whatever you want, the antioxidant power is still there!

Enjoy!

How are your products processed?

The processing varies by product. The Activ™ is the least processed product.  It is all-natural; and the cocoa powder is non-alkalized, non-lecithinized, and cold-pressed to remove about 75% of the fat content.  It is the lowest per serving in fat, carbohydrate content, and calories. The Nuggets also contain non-alkalized, non-lecithinized, and cold pressed cocoa powder in the chocolate.  However, the Nuggets contain more fat and sugar (even though the sugar is all-natural). The Omega Bars are made from the same chocolate as the Nuggets; however, we add 200 mg of Omega-3 from a vegetable source. The Protein Bars are made from the same cocoa powder that is used in the Activ™ product, but we include 10 grams of protein to make the product suitable for a meal replacement.

Does Xoçai™ contain caffeine?

Typically, Chocolate Companies have added caffeine to their chocolate, it does not occur naturally in chocolate.  However, one of chocolate’s active ingredients is Theobromine, which occurs only in Cacao. The two stimulants are related and have similar structures, but are very different chemicals with different properties, effects and origins.  Below is a table which compares and contrasts Theobromine and Caffeine.

Theobromine Caffeine

mild effect strong effect
very slow onset fast acting

Is fish collagen in the Xoçai™ Protein bars?

Yes, fish collagen is extremely good for healthy nails, hair, skin, bones, etc.  Our source of fish collagen is from a deep sea bass, and it is 98% protein, obviously a great source of protein.  In fact, there are companies that their entire focus is the health benefits of incorporating fish collagen in the diet.  They also mentioned that fish collagen has been used for decades as an alternative treatment for arthritis and osteoporosis.

Will heat damage the ORAC value of the Xocai Products?

The ORAC value of the Nuggets survives temperatures in excess of 60 degrees Celsius in the molding process.  So, there's no way that even a temperature of 120 degrees Fahrenheit could reduce the ORAC value.  And, everyone has to remember that the taste of Activ(TM) can change from batch to batch because the berry powders can change in taste from production to production.

Why is there references to Agave in your literature? I don't see any mention of Agave in your ingredients!

This is an error (a discontinued product contained this sweetener) and is being addressed in all new literature. Please do not highlight this point when promoting the products to others, as it is incorrect.

Some Chocolate from different countries, have been found to contain heavy metals, does MXI test for or can they assure the purity of their chocolate?

Yes, the chocolate is tested for all metals.  And, the only metal that tests high is iron, and that’s good.

Are farmers receiving fair prices for produce?

Yes

Are there independent auditors of the producers to ensure standards are met?

Yes

Are there negotiations with producers to establish a fair price for products?

Yes

Are producers paying employees fair wages and mindful of working conditions?

Yes

Is there child labor (children under 16 years) working as employees for our producers?

No, the MXI cacao beans are harvested from small, family farms to ensure that no child labor is used and that there is no use of pesticides.

Are MXI products Kosher?

The Nuggets & Omega Bars are BCK or British Columbia (Canada) Kosher this will appear on our next packaging production.

Are the Xoçai Nuggets sweetened with Sucralose?

No. The Xoçai™ Nuggets are considered a “Clean Product”, because they are not made with artificial colors, artificial flavors, preservatives, or Sucralose.

I have found references in your literature regarding "roasting" of the cacao beans. I thought there was a cold process involved?

This is an error in the literature which is being addressed. The process is not a heat roasted process, but a cold-pressed process which retains the Antioxidant properties of the bean.
